Bowenwork is sometimes referred to as the Homeopathy of Bodywork. It is a gentle, but powerful technique that works by balancing the autonomic nervous system. Shock, chronic injuries, trauma, repressed emotion, and chronic stress can short-circuit the bodys ability to heal itself. These stresses stimulate the sympathetic nervous system (flight or fight response). Fight or flight response has top priority. As long as the body is in this mode, healing can not take place. Bowenwork balances the autonomic nervous system, which allows the body to begin healing. Simply put, a Bowen session resets the body so it can heal itself.
Bowen Moves use the piezoelectric qualities of collagen to melt restrictions caused by injuries, which have created the need for accomodation. Then the practitioner completes the move by slowly rolling over the muscle, tendon or ligament to send information to the body that the restriction is gone allowing the body to find a place of more ease. The body will also tend to have more energy since less energy is being expended on muscles being contracted to satisfy accomodation.
